In lieu of a Newletter have posted report by Grace of our November 2006 meeting:
We zig-zagged through various topics. As always, the meeting was
full of interesting and entertaining discussions.
Art, Judi and Rochelle brought printouts of some of their recent
work. Absolutely beautiful images which when seen printed or framed
look more stunning than on screen. Judi and Art shared magnificent
landscape shots and Rochelle showed us some of her recent experiments
with Corel. The painted renditions of portraits were quite good in
my opinion.
Some of the topics discussed during the evening:
Filters - Which are the more important ones? Polarizing filters to
obtain decent landscape photos. Does it make sense to put a cheap
filter on an expensive piece of glass? Do the protective benefits
outweigh the perhaps decreased output quality resulting from putting
plastic on glass? Some of us use filters others do not.
Wish list – If we had all the money in the world, what photo
equipment would we get?
Magazines and Books - Digital Camera and Digital Photographer.
These are great magazines covering many topics on photography. They
can be bought at Barnes & Noble and Borders. We also passed around a
book on Photoshop CS2 by Deke McClelland.
Websites – Bill recommended luminouslandscape.com being one of his
favorite sites for different tutorials. Rochelle recommended
photowalkthrough.com for a tutorial on High Dynamic Range.
Next month's project – We decided that our next theme should
be "Home". However, instead of posting our photos online for this
project, Art would like us to bring either a printout, a CD or show
it online at the meeting. The purpose of doing it this way versus
pre-showing it online is to obtain a lively exchange of critiques and
ideas at the meeting. After the meeting we may post the images for
the benefit of those in remote locations.
Holiday Shoot – We are proposing meeting the week after Thanksgiving
to do our "Holiday lights" field trip. Exact date and location will
be ironed out through upcoming discussions online.
The night concluded with Grace distributing an article that talks
about the next direction of photography. Instead of pixel quantity
maximization, the article tells us that photographic improvements in
the next decade will likely be in the direction of pixel quality and
dynamic range.
Next Meeting – Our next meeting will be held on December 14.
